Yes it will void your warranty if you tell them but if anything goes wrong hardware wise just reflash the stock firmware and your fine they won't know that you've been rocking a none sanctioned firmware. There are problems with some of the firmwares, the best advice here is to do your research! Cyanogen is 100% fine in the stable release everything works and it's rock solid. There's obviously different builds and different features do some research and see which suit you! The chances of you bricking your phone are pretty slim, once you have the custom SPL on it anyway you can recover everything. Your less likely to brick it after a hack it seems. You can go back to stock it’s really easy to do. Mainly because it's so easy to get going with, and is by far the easiest to get support and hosting for.
